In time for International Women’s Day, Capilano Students’ Union is hosting a women-in-politics panel tonight, from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. North Vancouver-Seymour MLA Jane Thornthwaite, North Vancouver-Lonsdale MLA Bowinn Ma, District of North Vancouver Coun. Megan Curren, and former longtime MP Libby Davies will discuss some of the challenges and unique opportunities that come with being a woman in B.C. politics. The free event is taking place at CapU’s Lonsdale campus at 125 Victory Ship Way.
The North Shore Dragon Busters are inviting women who are interested in learning more about the dragon boat team made up of breast cancer survivors during a new members meeting tonight at Lynn Valley library. The meeting takes place from 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Acclaimed jazz pianist Renee Rosnes returns to the West Coast tonight for a concert alongside Capilano University’s jazz ensembles. The Five-time Juno Award-winning musician has more than 17 albums as a bandleader to her name, as well as having collaborated with numerous jazz greats. The show takes place at The BlueShore at CapU from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets: $35/$38

A photographic exhibition looking back at the history of the Vancouver Canucks opens today at the Polygon Gallery. This rare photo exhibition spans decades, beginning in the 1950s and ’60s when the team played in the Western Hockey League, through to when the team joined the NHL from the ’70s onwards. Many of the photographs were taken by longtime Vancouver Sun photographer and North Shore resident Ralph Bower.
