Heading into the weekend on the North Shore can only mean one thing – it’s time to wake up really early and do some exhilarating outdoor activities.
Find your way to Deep Cove Kayak Saturday morning for the annual Indian Arm Challenge, where you’ll paddleboard or kayak your way along a 32-kilometre route from Deep Cove to Granite Falls, racing as either a solo participant or as part of a relay team. Registration opens at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow, with the first wave of racers set to kick off at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $50.
While students will get moving later this month, the rest of us get a chance to honour Terry Fox’s legacy this weekend, with Terry Fox Runs scheduled for this Sunday at Inter River Park in North Vancouver and 2411 Dundarave Lane (Innovative Fitness) in West Vancouver. Registration for the North Van runs opens at 9 a.m., with the run set for 10 a.m., and in West Van, registration opens at 8 a.m. and the run starts at 9 a.m. Search terryfox.org/run/find-a-run-site for more details, including route information.
Hit the stage with First Impressions Theatre’s new season this weekend. Take in Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, a bittersweet comedy of love about a compulsive, starry-eyed cook and a wisecracking waitress, tonight at 8 p.m. or tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Deep Cove theatre. The play runs until Sept. 28.
If you’ve got the time, Polygon Gallery has quite the experience. The LoLo gallery is presenting The Clock starting tonight at 5 p.m., at which point the gallery will stay open overnight for the 24-hour screening, which features a synchronized cinematic montage of film and television footage from the last 70 years. The time represented in each clip is synchronized with actual time. The final screening is slated for Sept. 22.
Explore ceramicist Sally Michener’s new exhibition, titled Sit . Stay . Speak, opening tomorrow at Seymour Art Gallery. The new series of work showcases 10 hand-built sculptures clad in mosaics of ceramic and glass which playfully explores a new subject for the artist: dogs. The gallery opens at 10 a.m.
