The commencement of the North Shore Writers Festival this weekend marks the 20th anniversary of the annual celebration of Canadian literature. Kicking off tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. with a literary trivia quiz hosted by local rocker and CBC personality Grant Lawrence, the festival will include everything from a book fair, numerous workshops, and presentations from author’s, such as Cree, Lakota and Scottish storyteller Monique Gray Smith, who will be talking about her 27-year healing journey in addition to her numerous works at 11:45 a.m. Saturday. A new community festival that’s aiming to empower people through female-focused adventure films, sports clinics and special events is taking place at various venues across the North Shore this weekend.
