Catch New York City-based author and searing social commentator Fran Lebowitz in her appearance in the new speaker series at Capilano University, re-launching to mark the school’s 50th anniversary. The show, which commences at 8 p.m. tonight at the BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts, will also include a Q&A with the audience.

This weekend is Buchanan Bowl XXXII, with ancient North Vancouver football rivals the Carson Graham Eagles and Handsworth Royals meeting for the epic annual match at Carson tomorrow afternoon. As North Shore News sports reporter Andy Prest notes: “After several years of playing in different leagues, the two teams are back in the same bracket this year with Handsworth joining Carson in the ultra-tough AAA Western Conference. This is no exhibition match this year – it’s a league game.” And, I’ll add, this time it’s personal! Kickoff is 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at Carson, so come on down to cheer on your team or just watch some top-tier youth football action.

This is your last weekend to see – and, frankly, experience – Tales of an Urban Indian, a Talk is Free Theatre production that’s showing at Presentation House Theatre until Sunday. Well, it’s not really “showing” at PHT: audiences for the experimental production are actually picked up outside the theatre in a bus and driven around Vancouver as the play unfolds right there on the vehicle itself. Royal Canadian Air Farce’s Craig Lauzon, who stars in the one-man show, is a sensation. Tickets range from $25 to $35 and the show is approximately 90 minutes.

Culture Days kicks off today, described as a three-day national event featuring thousands of free, hands-on, interactive activities where the public can discover artists, creators, heritage experts, architects, curators, designers and other creative professionals in their communities. In North Vancouver, you can check out Poets in the Kitchen tomorrow at CityScape Community Art Space starting at 1 p.m., where a live cooking demonstration will then make way for a group of poets and spoken word artists plying their craft. Space is limited and is based on a first come, first served basis. The event is also being live streamed by visiting instagram.com/johnnydtrinh.

Summer’s splendour has set sail for another year. Welcome to fall! And what spells f-a-l-l more than West Vancouver’s eighth annual PumpkinFest? Everyone’s invited to come celebrate the harvest season this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the West Vancouver Community Centre and Seniors’ Activity Centre, which this year will feature a pumpkin patch, artisan market, interactive Lego wonderland, dunk tank, photo booth and much more for the whole family.
