Happy birthday! Capilano University is celebrating its 50th anniversary this weekend with CapFest, a free celebration event that will feature food trucks, live music (Hey Ocean! Is the headliner), a mural tour and much, much more tomorrow from 2 to 9 p.m. at the North Vancouver campus. Word to the wise: the first 500 people to arrive at the event by public transit or bicycle will receive a free gift.

The North Shore-based Vancouver Chamber Music Society is kicking off its 2018/2019 season tomorrow with a performance featuring international rising star Brannon Cho performing a duet on cello, alongside pianist Chiharu Iinuma, at West Vancouver United Church at 7:30 p.m. Born in 1994, Cho is coming off a string of top-prize wins at international cello competitions.

World Rivers Day has been celebrated in B.C. since 1980 and those looking to partake in this year’s festivities can do so in North Vancouver on Sunday with a watershed tour, tree planting events and a film screening. At Lynnmouth Park, from noon to 4 p.m., there’ll be a family-friendly tree planting event with educational displays, games and live music; Children three years and older are invited to explore where water comes from at the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve at 9 a.m., with Metro Vancouver hosting a watershed tour where children can explore the Seymour falls dam and walks through trails by the lower river; And finally, a film screening of RiverBlue, which follows river conservationist Mark Angelo as he investigates the fashion industry and its polluting effects, is being shown at 1 p.m. at Parks Heritage Centre (1620 Mount Seymour Rd.). Speaking of nature’s path, the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre is hosting a workshop on planning one’s own perennial food garden on Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon.
