The annual Rock Ambleside festival is running tonight through Sunday, with a slew of your favourite bands likely on the ticket, including Loverboy, Doug and The Slugs, Chilliwack, and more. The birds, the birds! The Vancouver International Bird Festival kicks off on Sunday, with a number of North Shore-specific events lined up. On Aug. 19, participate in Bird Festival Day in North Vancouver, where District of North Vancouver’s environmental protection staff at Cates Park/Whey-Ah-Whichen are offering a number of family-friendly activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., such as a scavenger hunt that will encourage you to explore the natural ecology of the area. You’ll also learn how the district manages bird populations in the urban environment, and how you can help.
