The Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes sizzling temperatures this weekend.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Derek Lee tells V.I.A. a ridge of high pressure will start to build heading into the weekend, providing conditions for temperatures to soar to highs possibly exceeding the regional average (18 C) by over 10 C.
Wednesday, June 4, kicked off with slightly cooler temperatures following a day with above-average heat on Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to climb a couple of degrees on Thursday, although the significantly warmer weather isn't expected to emerge until Friday or Saturday.
"Temperatures are gradually rising with more sunny days until we are fully cloud-free by Saturday," Lee explains.
Temperatures could reach the mid-20s or higher on Saturday, with Sunday expected to see temperatures spike around 29 C or a low of 15 C in Metro Vancouver. Inland areas may even see daytime highs of 30 C or slightly higher.
Metro Vancouver weather forecast won't likely feature heat warnings
Lee notes that the early season heat "probably won't trigger heat warnings," but may persist for two to four days. However, locals should monitor the forecast for changes. Since daylight hours increase through June, ridges of high pressure have more time to strengthen with less cooling overnight.
On the other hand, temperatures may fall short of the expected highs, particularly with stronger northwesterly winds.
The heat may continue into next week, with elevated temperatures expected on Monday, according to the current seven-day forecast. A gradual cooling trend is expected to emerge Tuesday and continue for several days, although the department isn't confident showers will accompany it.
"If we do see some showers, they will likely be mid- to late next week," he clarifies.
"But any precipitation is welcome because we won't see any for the next little while."
