Photos: Squamish gallery displays trash turned into artistic treasure

One day ahead of Earth Day, Diving In: The Art of Cleaning Lakes and Oceans, showed how local artists turned trash found in local waters into treasure.

One day before Earth Day, Squamish's Foyer Gallery hosted an installation that showed how local artists can turn trash into treasure.

On April 21, an exhibition called Diving In: The Art of Cleaning Lakes and Oceans, showed how trash recovered at the bottom of local waters by divers could be repurposed into beautiful art.

The pieces were on full display at the gallery just outside the Squamish Library.

Hosting the event was Amy Liebenberg, executive director of the Squamish Arts Council. She was the project manager for this initiative.

An opening ceremony from the Squamish Nation's Devan Williams kicked off the event.

This was followed by remarks from Henry Wang of Divers for Cleaner Lakes and Oceans, which has been locally involved in recovering trash at the bottom of popular local lakes.

Artist Michael Binkley and Squamish Mayor Karen Elliott were also on hand to extend appreciative words for the event.

The art will be on display until April 31.
