Pass the popcorn Friday nights at Parkgate library

November: The days are shorter, colder. And as the leaves on the trees change colour and fall, we know how tempting it is to retreat into the comfort of our homes. But November is also the month in which daylight savings time ends.

November: The days are shorter, colder. And as the leaves on the trees change colour and fall, we know how tempting it is to retreat into the comfort of our homes. But November is also the month in which daylight savings time ends. What will you do with that extra hour? This November, we challenge you to battle the urge to go into hibernation mode. Instead, we encourage you to "fall back" into your local library and check out one of the awesome programs happening near you. Here’s a taste of what’s happening at Parkgate library this month.

Friday Night Film Club             Every Friday in November | 6:30 p.m.

Bring your own snacks to enjoy free movies, theatre-style, at your library! This month, we’re showing: Adrift (Nov. 2), Megan Leavey (Nov. 9), Indian Horse (Nov. 16), Leave No Trace (Nov. 23) and Don’t Worry He Won’t Get Far on Foot (Nov. 30). No registration, no lines and no fees. Arrive early to get a good spot.

Freshly Picked: An Evening with Jane Reid         Nov. 14 | 7 p.m.

Take a delightful journey through B.C.’s extraordinary bounty and explore the secrets of locally grown fruits and vegetables. Edible Vancouver contributor, Jane Reid, has written a new book dedicated to the foodies, locavores and gardeners that make up the plentiful harvests that B.C. farmers produce every year. Jane Reid presents Freshly Picked, a new book which offers tips on where and when to find the freshest fruits and veggies, plus storage hints, and simple recipes. Register at 604-929-3727, ext. 8166.

Black Holes: Enigmas of the Cosmos        Nov. 22 | 7 p.m.

Black holes have long captured our imagination, but rarely do we get to hear about how they actually work and what scientists are currently thinking about them. Come learn about black hole history and basics, experimental evidence, as well as contemporary theories, with local astrophysics PhD candidate, Amita Kushner. Drop in!
