St. Patrick’s Day may be over for another year, but in Lower Lonsdale the leprechauns clearly aren’t getting the message.

From now until March 31, the Shipyards District is playing host to an augmented reality experience with people encouraged to download an app that will let them point their smart phone at the table of one of a number of participating restaurants or pubs – and a digital leprechaun will appear on screen and jump around the table.

“We are really excited about our partnership with Xplorer Interactive and this innovative new app that has been designed to enhance everyone’s experience in the Shipyards District,” stated Greg Holmes, executive director of the Lower Lonsdale Business Improvement Area, in a news release.

The event, called Celtic Crawl, features participating venues such as Tap & Barrel, The Gull, Green Leaf Brewing, Sailor Hagar's Pub, and Raglan’s Bistro, and encourages players to “capture” as many digital leprechauns as they can in order to be entered to a win a number of prizes from local Lower Lonsdale businesses.

“Celtic Crawl is the first, and more playful, application of this app which is unique to us. Future versions of the app will showcase the distinct history, art and culture of Lower Lonsdale and highlight our transformation into a vibrant waterfront neighbourhood,” stated Holmes.
