The following is a selection of volunteer opportunities from various community organizations, made available through Volunteer North Shore, a service of North Shore Community Resources Society.

My Parkgate Break Program Assistants Provide community-based program for senior adults with early to moderate dementia by providing consistent, caring support to participants. Training (Dementia Care Basics and Foodsafe) will be provided.

Volunteer Tutor Tutors work with students who are identified by their teachers as needing a boost in their literacy skills. The work is fun and very rewarding. For students, these are invaluable opportunities to practice reading and writing in an environment where it is OK to take risks, make mistakes and learn at their own pace.

Library Assistant Categorize books and label shelves in a care facility library (first Wednesday of each month, 3-5 p.m.)

Seniors Peer Support Volunteer Looking for caring volunteers to provide an emotional support for seniors, also to guide them through changes and challenges. Possible previous experience in people-related services.

Volunteer This program offers meaningful and challenging roles for volunteers interested in working with adult male parolees serving the remainder of their federal sentences in the community.
