Climber Eileen Bistrisky broke record in North Shore Bagger Challenge

Only woman to reach 82 summits will speak at Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival event

Over the past year climber Eileen Bistrisky fulfilled a public pledge – and beat a record – to climb every peak on the North Shore in the annual Bagger Challenge. She is the only woman to reach 82 summits.

“Pushing limits when climbing peaks and mountains is a very male-dominated arena,” said Bistrisky, who is also chair of Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival and frequent MC. “At this year’s festival, I hope to inspire more women to push their limits on their terms.”

The North Shore Bagger Challenge is a friendly annual competition to see “who can bag the most North Shore peaks in one season.” The previous woman’s record was 76 peaks set by Jennifer Golinski in 2018. Golinski inspired and supported Bistrisky to do the 2019 challenge, who went on to submit a chapter about her adventures in the book, Rockstars: Inspirational Stories of Success.

Bistrisky will talk about her achievement at VIMFF’s Beautiful British Columbia show at West Vancouver’s Kay Meek Arts Centre on Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m.
