Down by the boardwalk, students at the Cheakamus Centre’s outdoor classrooms will soon be able to take pond samples with the help of a new platform.

In July, the Centre announced it received $10,000 to upgrade the boardwalk with a dipping platform that minimizes impacts on sensitive habitats while letting young stewards study them.

“We are excited that this project will improve access and understanding of this ecologically significant habitat,” Sarah Bainbridge, senior development officer for the Cheakamus Foundation, said in a press release. “Enhancing outdoor learning space at Cheakamus Centre will further inspire discovery and exploration, supporting environmental awareness and stewardship. We are thrilled that we are able to make this happen with support from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.”

The funds will also expand the observation area and help the pond habitat support even more diverse wildlife and plants.

These recent funds come on the heels of a $55,000 contribution from the Pacific Salmon Foundation in June.
