These avocados don’t lie: brunch is clearly the most important weekend meal, and in order to appease eager diners everywhere the Brunch Affair is returning to The Pipe Shop and Shipbuilders Square in North Vancouver this weekend. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, food-seekers can get scrumptious brunch and breakfast items from local chefs and restaurants, as well as hear some live music. General admission is $5. Food and beverage tokens can be purchased once inside. Come hungry.

After indulging in some brunch fare, why not burn it off with an engrossing story-filled walk? Discover North Vancouver’s hidden histories during free-of-charge guided walks through the shipyards starting this Saturday and Sunday, and running every weekend until Aug. 26, at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Shipyard pals Sal and Sam will perform stories of North Vancouver’s historic Burrard Dry Dock, historically one of Western Canada’s largest and most productive shipyards. In the lead up to Caribbean Days, the Trinidad and Tobago Cultural Society of BC is giving a preview of the two-day event with a showcase of Caribbean culture this Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. at Civic Plaza in North Vancouver, just outside of city hall at 14th and Lonsdale Avenue. Expect to hear steel pan music, a DJ, and experience other Caribbean entertainment, food, and culture.

Speaking of music, North Vancouver Recreation and Culture’s Live and Local Summer Concert Series launches tonight with jazz artist Cayla Brooke performing at Deep Cove’s Panorama Park Concert Stage and Deanna Knight & The Hot Club of Mars performing at the Lynn Valley Concert Stage, both at 7 p.m. The Live and Local series will present 17 free concerts on stages at Lynn Valley Village, Edgemont Village and Panorama Park every Friday until the end of August.

Friday nights from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Waterfront Plaza outside Lonsdale Quay are going to be sizzling with dance. Until Aug. 31, Salsa Studio will be hosting a fun, easy dance experience where participants can learn the foundations of salsa in a two-hour lesson each Friday. The sessions are weather permitting and participation is by donation. Bring your dancing shoes and a sizzling hot attitude!
