The 10th annual Kilby Memorial Teen Art Contest and Gala hosted by North Vancouver City Library took place last month with teen artists, friends and family in attendance along with Kilby family members. Paul Kilby was an English teacher at Balmoral Junior Secondary who loved to inspire youth to explore art and language. He passed away in 2008 and left a legacy to support and encourage youth in their artistic endeavours. The theme for this year’s contest was In Between, with teens in grades 6 through 12 submitting paintings, digital art, video and animation work. Overall winner was Melting by Clare Pan. First place went to Awakening by Emma Lee (grades 6-9) and The Fire of Love Is Not Hellfire by Sarina Khornali (grades 10-12) with honourable mentions to We Are In Between by Olivia Jung (grades 6-9) and Nightmare by Artem Fostach (grades 10-12).
