Unplugged helps recycle yesterday's gadgets

OVER the years, we've all accumulated plenty of gizmos and gadgets while trying to keep up with cutting edge technology.

OVER the years, we've all accumulated plenty of gizmos and gadgets while trying to keep up with cutting edge technology.

But what happens to all the stuff that we no longer need? That passé toaster from the early 2000s, or that electric toothbrush that can't even wish you "Good morning?" Well, luckily there's a place to toss them and it's no longer the landfill.

Unplugged, the small appliance recycling program, accepts up to 120 different types of equipment at three drop-off locations on the North Shore. Everything from curling irons to alarm clocks to blenders can be submitted.

The government-approved program, which debuted Oct. 1, was introduced by the Canadian Electrical Stewardship Association and is the first of its kind in the country.

Drop-off locations in North Vancouver include: North Shore Bottle Depot, 235 Donaghy Ave., North Vancouver; North Vancouver Thrift Store, 241 Lonsdale Ave., North Vancouver, and North Van Recycling Ltd., 310 Brooksbank Ave., North Vancouver.
