The unexpected can happen any time and anywhere. You may be in your car and unable to return home. North Shore Emergency Management Office recommends putting together an emergency kit for your car with enough supplies for at least 24 hours.
TIP: Keep your gas tank at least half full at all times, especially in the winter.
Store the following necessities in a knapsack so your hands are free to carry other items or assist someone. Consider what you can comfortably carry because you may have to leave your car and walk to a safe location.
? Water pouches (nine 4½-ounce packages)
? Food - lightweight, compact and ready-to-eat
? Sturdy walking shoes and socks
? Extra clothing
? Poncho and emergency blanket
? Heavy duty work gloves
? Battery operated/wind-up radio and batteries
? Flashlights, batteries, lightsticks, headlight
? Whistle
? Warning lights and flares
? Fire extinguisher
? Rags and/or paper towels

BAIT PROPERTY
ICBC recently announced that police now have a new way to deter thieves and protect vehicle owners. In a press release, ICBC noted that B.C.'s Bait Car program now includes bait property.
The Bait Car Program is run by the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team (IMPACT). Since IMPACT began operating in 2003, auto theft in B.C. is down 73 per cent, noted the release.
Bait property will look like the typical type of property found in cars, such as gym bags or tool boxes, and can be tracked and monitored by police. View top 10 lists and videos at baitcar.com.
