Treasure Chest of Hope: Pearls, diamonds and gold will sparkle at Soroptimist International of North & West Vancouver's 11th annual gala in support of North Shore Youth Safe House and the North Shore Schizophrenia Society. The dinner and dance will take place on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Hollyburn Country Club in West Vancouver. Tickets are $75 and include a $25 tax receipt. Lions Gate Gogos will hold a sale of Kazuri jewelry on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2 to 4: 30 p.m. at Mollie Nye House, 940 Lynn Valley Rd., North Vancouver. All proceeds from the sale will go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. Lions Gate Gogos ("gogo" is Zulu for "grandmother") are members of the Greater Van Gogos, who support women in Africa who are raising their grandchildren orphaned by AIDS. Kazuri is ceramic jewelry handmade in Kenya in a factory that pays fair wages and offers benefits to its employees. A Canadian non-profit society imports Kazuri jewelry to Canada and distributes it to Grandmother to Grandmother groups across the country. Refreshments and free parking. Cash or cheques only.

Sample sale: Vancouver jewelry label Myka will hold a sample sale Nov. 9-10 at the Myka/Elemental showroom, Suiet 243 FX Building, 1951 Glen Dr., Vancouver. Jewelry includes earrings, necklaces, chokers and pendants plated in antique sterling silver, antique brass and set with Swarovski crystals. Hours are noon to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, 10 a.m.

Cut-a-thon: Scarlet Lounge Salon and Day Spa Inc. will host a cut-a-thon to benefit the British Columbia Lung Association on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the salon, Suite 200, 1868 Marine Dr., West Vancouver. Haircuts only, no colour. The day's proceeds will be donated to the association. The salon will also cut hair for donation through the BC Cancer Agency to make wigs for cancer patients undergoing treatment. Hair must be clean, untreated (not permed or coloured) and minimum 20 centimetres (eight inches) in length. For details, call 604-922-5778.

Starry Nights: Park Royal's annual Holiday Shopping Night returns on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 7: 30-11 p.m. in the north mall, and the following Tuesday, Nov. 29, 7: 30-11 p.m. in the south mall. Entertainment, food, prizes and surprises. Tickets are $10 each or enjoy both nights for $15, available at guest services.
