Some wet weather may put a damper on August BC Day long weekend plans, although no major storms are expected in the Lower Mainland.
The Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes soaring temperatures in the days leading up to the holiday weekend, starting on Tuesday, July 29, with highs of 25 C on the coast and 30 C inland expected. With humidity, these temperatures are expected to feel more like 28 C and 33 C.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Matt Loney tells V.I.A. the hot temperatures should persist through Thursday, although inland temperatures may climb to 31 C on Wednesday and feel more like 36 C, with humidity.
Other parts of the province, including the Interior, are under heat warnings, which are also expected to continue until Thursday.
Seven-day Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes a showery long weekend
An upper trough will bring the potential for precipitation late Thursday night, although showers are more likely on Friday morning. The coast will be spared from significant rain, but the interior is expected to have heavier showers and thunderstorms, Loney explains.
The cloudy, possibly wet weather is expected to clear on Friday, with sunshine expected on Saturday.
Loney says an organized system could bring the chance of showers on Sunday night and into the holiday Monday, although no significant precipitation is expected.
Conditions should remain fairly stable heading into next week, although a cool north Pacific flow may bring a continued chance for light showers periodically with normal temperatures and variable skies.
Air quality remains good "for the moment" but any emerging fires could create poor conditions. However, a decent marine flow can shield the region from smoke, Loney added.
