Three North Shore girls are competing in a U-17 national soccer championship tournament in South Surrey this week.

From Oct. 3 to Oct. 8, Abigail Thomas, Lauren Parr and Katie Mitchell are representing their club, Surrey United, and the province at South Surrey Athletic Park.

Surrey United has a long history of sending teams to nationals. Last year, the U-15 girls won the Canadian title while the women’s team placed second overall.

The three 17-year-olds played on the North Shore Girls Soccer Club’s Metro team for four years before all being invited to try out and ultimately join Surrey United two years ago. The girls all live and attend high school in North Vancouver but make their way out to Surrey three times a week for practice on the competitive soccer team.

Their first game in the qualification phase is on Thursday at 12:15 p.m. against the host team Coastal FC. You can find the full schedule to the tournament here at www.canadasoccer.com, under competitions.
