Howe Sound Championships will be on the line tonight as the top North Shore senior boys teams hit the hardwood aiming to grab local bragging rights as well as coveted berths in the provincial championships.
Handsworth Secondary will host a doubleheader tonight with Windsor taking on Argyle in the AAA final starting at 5:45 p.m. followed by West Vancouver against Handsworth in the AAAA matchup at 7:30 p.m.
At the AAAA level, the second-seeded West Vancouver Highlanders have peaked at the right time, advancing through the double-knockout tournament unscathed on their way to tonight’s final. The Highlanders knocked off the top-ranked Handsworth Royals 53-50 Tuesday to book their spot in the final. The Royals responded with a 72-70 win over Carson Graham Wednesday to make the final. If West Van wins tonight, they’ll take the title. If Handsworth comes out on top the two teams will play again tomorrow with everything on the line.
In AAA action the top-ranked Argyle Pipers cruised into the final with a pair of big wins over Rockridge and Bodwell. Third-seeded Windsor lost their opener against second-place Bodwell but then fought back with a pair of wins, including a 79-58 victory in the rematch against Bodwell Wednesday to earn a berth in the final. If Argyle wins tonight they will take the title, while a Windsor win would force a final game Friday.
At the AA level the top-seeded Collingwood Cavaliers were knocked out of the tournament, with second-seeded Elphinstone earning a berth in the final with three straight wins. St. Thomas Aquinas and Seycove will battle tonight for the second berth in the final, tip-off at 5:15 p.m. at Collingwood School. The AA final is scheduled for Friday night at 7 p.m. at Collingwood.
