Trucks do use Keith Rd

Dear Editor:

I write with respect to Dianne Murray's Sept. 7 letter, Keith Passing Lane Dangerous, and her statement "trucks do not go on this route."

I live at the top of Keith Road hill and clearly recall one of Darrell Mussatto's first campaign promises in 2005 to enforce a truck route on the Low Level Road, away from both the Third Street hill and the Keith Road hill. Right now, 13,000-plus vehicles pass my home every day and they include semis, semis with trailers, dump trucks, cement trucks, moving vans, fire trucks and all sizes in between. They all labour up the hill, hit the crest and rush down to the corner at East Grand Boulevard.

I'm pretty sure I could sit at my front window all day and see less than 10 cyclists come up the hill. Ninety-five per cent of hill-walkers use the south side sidewalk. Surely the rough north sidewalk could be converted to a secure bike path for those few intrepid cyclists who insist on tempting the fates.
