Dear Editor:
The picture on the front page of the North Shore News on Jan. 18 is a great example of why this newspaper wins so many awards: the utter "yee-haw" expression on the little boy's face and the slight trepidation on the older girl's - what a terrific time-capture. It brought back so many happy memories.
One year we got an aluminum toboggan for Christmas. My little sister and her friend took it on its maiden voyage and somehow managed to veer off our driveway, across the neighbor's lawn and ended up straddling the ditch full of icy water. The two little girls slowly slid toward the middle. The toboggan sagged more and more. We ran to help, but just before we got there we heard a quietly whispered "Mommy" and the toboggan snapped in half and dumped them in the ditch. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that it only took a few minutes for the two to change into dry clothes, grab a crazy-carpet and continue sledding.
Thanks to the photographer, Paul McGrath. Your picture made my day.
