Thornthwaite valiant, learned -- and memorable

Dear Editor: Columnist Benjamin Alldritt misses the mark, in my opinion, when he states that MLA Jane Thornthwaite's term has been "pretty forgettable" (DNV's Coun. Little Has Big Plans, Aug. 14, North Shore News).

Dear Editor:

Columnist Benjamin Alldritt misses the mark, in my opinion, when he states that MLA Jane Thornthwaite's term has been "pretty forgettable" (DNV's Coun. Little Has Big Plans, Aug. 14, North Shore News).

As one whose frequent correspondence with both federal and provincial representatives has been met with responses either toeing a certain party line or bordering on lunacy, I found it amazing, encouraging and unique when Ms. Thornthwaite went out of her way to meet with me, to listen intently to my concerns and to follow up on issues that others would rather sweep under the carpet.

She has been nothing short of a valiant and learned representative for her constituents. When I went to Victoria to speak out on an uncomfortable issue, Jane was at my side and did not shirk her responsibility to make sure my voice was heard. I could ask no more of an MLA than that.

If passion and compassion are not prerequisites for holding a North Vancouver riding, then go ahead and replace Ms. Thornthwaite. I am not a Liberal supporter -- go Greens! -- but in this one instance, this courageous and forthright woman would have garnered my vote for sure.
