Sunday's last orders end North Shore's old hotel era

Dear Editor:

This is in response to the letter published Sept. 23, Cheers to the Working Man's Pub, from Ron Rannard and to many of the letters and comments we have received from North Shore residents in the past few months since we sold the hotel. We, as a family, are left with so much joy to know that for the last 25 years of Lynnwood Inn's 78 year history we have provided a place for everyone to eat, drink, party, dance or just to be in a place completely devoid of pretension.

People's memories diverge from the young who ended up at the Lynnwood after the surrounding bars closed for the night (remember the Avalon and the Coach House?) or the college crowd who wanted an affordable place to hang out, to the local business crowd to the longshoremen, fishermen and truck drivers who looked forward to ending their days at the place where everybody knows their name. It was these people who made the Lynnwood Inn and we would like to thank them for their many years of patronage - some customers still frequenting the inn after 60-plus years! Also a heartfelt thanks to the staff, some have been with us for 25 years such as our manager Chris Cotton, Louise Hudson, Pat Minchen, Cletus Godin and Kevin Lee!

There will be a generation that will never know the Lynnwood Inn, but for many of us this place will hold a special place in our hearts and we hope to keep a bit of the memories in the photographs, prints and signs that we will donate to the North Shore Archives.

We are confident the new owners' warehouse/office space venture will enrich the North Shore community.
