This proposal by Seymour Golf and Country Club to limit public access has nothing to do with finance, according to Seymour's board of directors, who state that they and Northlands are "healthy financially." The proposal would all but eliminate the lease agreement with the District of North Vancouver to provide public play two days a week. "There's more rounds per week" Mr. Greg Hope, Seymour's president, is quoted as saying in your Feb. 1 story.
What in fact will happen if Seymour is successful is that only 13 tee times per week( 52 rounds) will be available, down from approximately 95 (380 rounds). Only district residents could book a tee time, but "public" players could make up the foursome, hence a possible 13 district residents and 39 from outside the district - per week.
Seymour claims the current 2,000 district resident rounds a year will remain. The numbers defy this. In a realistic golf season, less statutory holidays (no play allowed), and accounting for golfers from outside the district, then availability for district golfers would be anywhere from a mere 370 to possibly 1,000.
