Servers are not private tax collectors

Dear Editor: I just wanted to clear up a misconception about the HST. My daughter works as a waitress in West Vancouver. Recently she served a party of seniors who informed her that they were against the HST and therefore would not be tipping her.

Dear Editor:

I just wanted to clear up a misconception about the HST. My daughter works as a waitress in West Vancouver. Recently she served a party of seniors who informed her that they were against the HST and therefore would not be tipping her.

Apparently this happens quite often.

Just to clarify, waitresses, waiters, hairdressers, barbers and other hard-working service people are not collecting the HST and keeping it for themselves. And at the end of the day, they are too tired to protest to the provincial government for you.
