Sensationalistic crash story irresponsible

Dear Editor: Your headline from the Feb.

Dear Editor:

Your headline from the Feb. 15 edition was irresponsible and sensationalistic (Pilot Should Have Survived Crash: Report, North Shore News)

I understand that a fully fueled plane took off; it encountered some disastrous problem; the pilot and co-pilot struggled enormously to maintain control; it crashed and a fire erupted. How can any organization speculate that "the pilot should have survived?"

If the plane had never taken off, it would never have crashed. If the plane hadn't crashed, the door wouldn't have jammed. If the pilot had not been in the plane, he would not have died. From where does such brilliant logic emanate?

It sounds like the Transportation Safety Board wants to congratulate itself with a we-told-you-so attitude, for recommending safety regulations that are probably extremely onerous and costly to implement and seem unlikely to matter in a catastrophic crash.

Unfortunately, your article failed to explore many of the pertinent issues.
