Hopefully someone in government can shed some light on what appears to be a complete contradiction of policy.
Recently, on TV and in the press, there has been a campaign about the benefits of "B.C.'s clean burning natural gas."
In the circumstances one would presume that it is far better to use natural gas rather than heating oil for heating purposes or any other use.
Therefore, I cannot understand why the provincial government's carbon tax on natural gas is 300 per cent greater than on heating oil and even worse when compared to regular gasoline.
To really rub salt into the wound, the government also has the audacity to charge HST on the actual carbon tax.
Whilst the justification for the carbon tax on regular gasoline is supposedly to encourage less use of one's vehicle, I would be most grateful if they can give their reasons for a punitive tax when one switches to "B.C.'s clean burning natural gas" to heat one's home.
Also, why should there be HST charged on another tax? Next minute we will charged HST on our income tax.
