Prowling Porsches should be put down

Dear Editor:

Regarding West Van Police Target Pack of Prowling Porsches (Aug. 10, North Shore News). Great title.

I am sure that the front-page coverage probably made the day for the guys who feel that in order to indulge their egos and flaunt their status, they have the right to put the rest of the motoring public at risk. I don't think they need your help to further inflate their bloated self-esteem. I am sure that the fines they paid were just a tiny part of the cost of having the fun they feel they deserve.

We need to send a clear message that our public roadways are not a place to gain bragging rights with their fellow high-end buddies.

"West Vancouver police are wagging their fingers," you write. You make it sound like everyone should view this as a cute boyswill-be-boys issue. I doubt the police who have to clean up the accidents would agree.

These guys obviously feel they are above the law. The "I'm-rich-and-you-can-all-go-to-hell" group is not going to go away with fines of a couple of hundred dollars. I think we should confiscate the vehicles of reckless drivers and auction them off. The funds raised could be used to help at-risk youth, many of whom live in desperate circumstances not of their own making, while these guys happily risk putting others in desperate circumstances.
