Pre-grad litter worth a donation

Dear Editor:

Last week, my husband and I walked our dogs up the trail along the west side of Mosquito Creek. On approaching the bridge under the freeway, we came across the remnants of what I assume was a Labour Day pre-grad party held the previous night. The area was strewn with bottles and cans and the remnants of a bonfire.

We picked up over more than four dozen beer cans, seven whisky, rum and vodka bottles and other various containers as well as plastic six-pack carriers which are a danger to wildlife as they can become entangled in them.

If the youths responsible for this mess are capable of carrying full containers to the area why is it so difficult to remove the empty ones?

I hope that in their final year of school they will mature into more responsible citizens who care about the environment.

The money collected from the return of this morning's collection will be donated to the SPCA. If anyone reading this was a participant in this Labour Day party I would suggest that they make a charitable donation.

If they can buy all that liquor surely a few dollars to a good cause is not beyond their means.
