One-third of North Shore residents say they'll only shop local for Christmas: poll

Local retailers can expect plenty of extra business this holiday season, but online sellers will be getting their cut of the action too, a new poll reveals.

The North Shore News polled 1,488 readers and asked the question: What is your Christmas shopping strategy this year?

The poll ran from Oct. 29  to Nov. 12 on our website. Of the 1,488 votes, we can determine that 647 are from within the North Shore community. The full results are as follows:

Local, whenever possible. Brick and mortar businesses need our help. 33.85% local, 31.85% total    
Online. It's just too easy. 8.50% local, 9.88% total    
A mix of online and local. 39.41% local, 37.63% total    
I don't do any extra shopping for Christmas. 18.24% local, 20.63% total

Results are based on an online study of adult North Shore News readers that are located in North Shore. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 2.53%, 19 times out of 20.
