Dear Editor:
An open letter to John Weston, MP for West VancouverSunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country: I wish to object to the Conservative Party's stand on the pipeline and tanker plans for B.C. (Oil, Environment Can Be on Same Team, July 29, North Shore News).
There is no sensible reason whatsoever to put at risk our waterways, water table, fish and wildlife habitat.
Our natural environment must come before everything else.
Our Premier's stand must be: "No pipeline, no tankers, no negotiations."
I want to be counted as one in your constituency that stands with the First Nations in objecting to this outrageous plan.
We could learn a lot from that culture about what is of real value on this earth, but instead we blindly chase ever more financial gain. Greed is driving this despicable project.
Mr. Weston, please think independently on this issue.
We all know that the prime minister and the cabinet intend to push it through, so our hope for the future lies with the courageous MPs who will stand up and speak for the majority of Canadians who do not think like the myopic ultra Conservatives that are currently running our country.
Contrary to what many men have been conditioned to think, business and profits are not what life is all about.
Please re-examine your position.
I wish you the courage to take a life-affirming stand that your party does not approve of.
Gail Cotter West Vancouver
