North Vancouver District should reconsider Edgemont seniors' home

Dear Editor: District of North Vancouver council's marginal 4-3 decision to endorse the massive Edgemont Senior Living development proposal came as a surprise to local residents who attended the public hearing. We witnessed the majority of speakers denounce the massive bulk of the ESL project, its prohibitive cost to seniors, its undesirable impact on neighbouring properties, parking, traffic, noise and more.

Council will vote on adopting the bylaws associated with this controversial project Monday evening while an opposing petition continues to grow. Council's decision to push ahead was contrary to the recommendations of the Canfield Working Group's majority report that, after an entire year of study and consultation, rejected the proposal for a plethora of valid reasons.

It is not too late to reverse the decision and defeat the ESL OCP amendment and rezoning bylaws. At the minimum, we request that a new public hearing be opened. Susan Hingson, Lenora Moore, on behalf of 342 concerned residents North Vancouver
