Regarding your Dec. 11 editorial, Forked Tongue:
A better header for the current situation at the Attawapiskat Indian Reserve in Ontario would be Fork it Out.
Ottawa currently funds this community to the tune of approximately $34 million annually. Dividing this up amongst the population of roughly 2,000 and then making an assumption that this represents approximately 500 families of four it works out to $70,000 per family. If the funding for each family of four was bumped to $100,000 annually it probably wouldn't make any difference - that's how broken their financial accountability is.
Thank goodness the federal Conservatives are demanding some oversight.
