Dear Editor:
This wishy washy ruling by the Supreme Court on the wearing of niqab (face veil) in court reflects the usual Canadian desire to accommodate all from different cultures that we allow to become citizens in our seemingly over-tolerant country in a desire to be reasonable.
A little acceptance here and there and we become mushy people that have no principles anymore that we can live by; just everybody else's and thus have none at all. Some immigrants love it but have no respect for us because we don't stand up for what we believe and say no when we should.
I prefer the Australian practical and stand-up approach: You can bring your culture and religion but it does not override Australian principles!
If you don't like it, don't come or just leave.
The niqab has no place in overriding any of our Canadian principles, courts and covenant that have forged this great country. It does not even have a place in the streets since it represents a form of slavery over women. Should we let Shariah law be accepted in Canada, or "honour killing" so that a son can legally kill his sister?
Let us stand up and be counted as a reasonable but strong people that won't be pushed around.
