New Balmoral students will make fine neighbours

Dear Editor:

As a former student of Balmoral junior secondary and a current teacher of many of the students Lisa Buss carelessly maligns in her Nov. 27 letter to the editor, Balmoral Neighbours Ignored, I feel compelled to respond.

Ms. Buss is quite simply uninformed. A quick visit up Hamilton Avenue would alleviate her fears about a "ghettoized" Upper Delbrook. Ms. Buss will find that our inmates, I mean students, are hard at work and focused on their studies, despite the disorders with which she has unfairly diagnosed them. I can assure her from personal experience that they will make fine neighbours. Working with the students of the William Lucas Centre, part of the upcoming Community Learning Program, has been the most positive experience of my career to date.

I am disappointed that the North Shore News published such a letter because I know that the majority of our community is far more open-minded and welcoming.
