Make TransLink levies optional too

Dear Editor:

After Adrian Dix made the mistake of riding the SkyTrain without a pass in his pocket - I will resist the urge to ask why he just didn't forge one - it has come to light that 50,000 tickets at $173 each have been issued worth more than $8.5 million.

What is more shocking is the fact that even though the ticket information goes into ICBC's files, that person is under no obligation to pay the ticket even if asked to by ICBC.

Really? And TransLink is crying shortfalls left, right and centre.

Knowing this I totally agree with both a vehicle levy on our property tax, a levy on our ICBC insurance renewal and a two cent per litre tax on pumped gas and diesel. Yup, I will go along with all of that, as long as we the drivers have the same choice as rapid transit riders have as to paying it or not.
