Kudos to Trevor Carolan for his Oct. 28 column, Density on Viagra in DNV planning. Although his article refers to development proposals in the Seylynn neighbourhood, it can serve as a warning of things to come with the proposed density and highrises in Lynn Valley at the Lynn Valley Centre, where the District of North Vancouver is also endeavouring to shove down the throats of its Lynn Valley residents high density with some very high buildings.
Have the members of district council not been to Lynn Valley Centre lately at any afternoon of the week? It is hard to find a parking space. The parking underneath the North Vancouver District Public Library is also normally full.
Is it in the best interest of the Lynn Valley neighbourhood to have its character completely changed with more parking problems, more pollution, more noise, more traffic, more garbage and more crime (an inevitable consequence of greater density)?
We have chosen to live in Lynn Valley because of its atmosphere, slower pace of life, one of the lowest crime rates in Metro Vancouver and the ability to see the sky, the trees and the mountains.
Is council trying to literally put a shadow over us with its high-density highrise proposals?
