Lonsdale development has exciting potential

Dear Editor:

As a resident and taxpayer of the City of North Vancouver, I have recently been more proactive in following the discussion with council, community members and businesses regarding new development along Lonsdale Avenue.

My husband and I have lived here for four years now, and are very excited about the prospect of raising our family here. Moreover, we are excited about the potential for new amenities and new development along the Lonsdale corridor. We are starting to see many of our friends now move to the City of North Vancouver for these very reasons.

I do feel that this new generation of young families living in the City of North Vancouver is not being heard as we are currently faced with long work hours and family commitments which do not allow us to always participate and contribute our time. I would like to commend Coun. Linda Buchanan for her recent statements at council with respect to there being many residents in North Vancouver who are very supportive of new development, and who are not being heard.

The thought of my family and I walking to new grocery stores, coffee shops and other amenities in Central Lonsdale as opposed to getting packed up and driving to different destinations to meet our needs is very exciting for me as a resident of the Lonsdale area. I am very supportive of the revitalization of Central Lonsdale and the approved developments to date. This is one of the very reasons why my husband and I voted for Coun. Buchanan and others that are supportive of redevelopment in the city.

The many vacancies throughout the Lonsdale corridor are concerning to us as having amenities within walking distance is very important to us. We feel that the new proposed developments, specifically in the city centre which is in dire need of redevelopment, will bring new residents (future taxpayers) and business to the city and ultimately provide a more vibrant, complete community.
