LETTER: Why is it difficult to accept that non-residents want to transit to West Van?

Dear editor: I am writing in response to Trevor Lautens’ April 19 column (Park Royal Talks About Topping Up Towers ) where Lautens states "pro-B-line ranks are swelled by non-citizens of West Van.

Dear editor:

I am writing in response to Trevor Lautens’ April 19 column (Park Royal Talks About Topping Up Towers) where Lautens states "pro-B-line ranks are swelled by non-citizens of West Van."

Surely this is not a surprise and distinctively is not a hidden fact.

TransLink's figures show 78 per cent of West Vancouver employees commute from outside the district. During council meetings, we heard from teachers and students and many others who travel to, or through, West Vancouver by transit and support rapid-transit to the full route range with dedicated lane as designed.

As West Vancouver Coun. Craig Cameron was quoted in the April 17 issue, "we've come across as somewhat parochial."

Statements such as Lautens’ continue to support the parochial theme.

Is it difficult to recognize and accept that non-residents of West Vancouver might want to actually travel to this area to work, to play and to support businesses?
