Dear Editor:
I would like to thank all the people who were of great support to me and my mom during a crisis we had on the night of Thursday, June 20 when a stranger came in our apartment and refused to leave.
It’s amazing how things can change so quickly, for good or for bad.
I went from being scared (as I had assumed someone was coming to harm the intruder, and must be somewhere close by) and trying to rush my mom out of the apartment and down the hall, to feeling completely safe a few minutes later behind our neighbour’s locked door and hearing police sirens outside, realizing we got through it.
I’d like to thank all the officers who came, for arriving so fast and for your patience and support.
I’d also like to thank the dispatchers (there were a few 911 calls from our building besides us); our president of council Scott, our awesome neighbours, and the police victims services member who is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met.
Also, for all of the people who have reached out to us afterwards to express concern and well wishes, you’ll never know how grateful we are.
We don’t believe that man meant any harm, and we really hope he gets the help he needs for a better life.
