An open letter to West Vancouver mayor and council:
I am writing in response to the direction the location of an arts centre for West Vancouver is taking and subsequent remarks made by Mayor Mary-Ann Booth. If 50 per cent of the respondents to the district’s survey did not agree with the proposed Ambleside locations, why is it all to be sent back to staff for more “study”? Is this not enough proof that the two Ambleside locations are not appropriate and should be removed? And the fact that many respondents are not West Vancouver residents is shocking. We are the taxpayers who are paying for the studies.
Let us not make the mistake of putting this proposed facility down by our waterfront, which is already congested. Please look at more suitable locations. After all, an art gallery and arts centre is often “inward” looking – witness the Polygon in North Vancouver, which is mostly empty of people and blocks a prime waterfront vista.
As a family who grew up in this community, volunteering in art classes, etc., we urge you to make the right decision for all of us.
Mollie V.L. Anthony
