Dear Editor:

The new West Vancouver Cineplex movie theatre is a blight on the landscape for many of the hundreds or thousands of residents of Sentinel Hill.

While no view is protected, there has been no consultation with the affected residents, concerning the “big box” that is currently being built on top of Park Royal South.

Many years ago, there was significant consultation, and opposition to a large Home Depot being built in the new village. The developers listened, and the store was built in proper scale for the location.

While, I am in support of a new movie theatre, does West Van need 11 screens and 44,000 square feet of movie space, when the movie going public is declining, due to the Netflix effect?

Cineplex’s shares, which were trading in the mid 50s, last year, are now trading around $31 per share, for a good reason. Most south facing Sentinel Hill residents are now facing a 40 foot wall, which is probably 200 feet long (Donald Trump would be proud). Perhaps the biggest slap in the face is the large royal blue section, which will likely hold the lit corporate logo, and destroy the iconic views of the bridge and Downtown.
