Dear Editor:

Re: “West Vancouverites lodge Skookum noise complaints”: Sept. 14

I was sadly not surprised to read the article in your Friday, Sept. 14 edition entitled “West Vancouverites lodge Skookum noise complaints.”

In the article it stated that there had been 12 complaints logged at the West Vancouver municipal hall regarding the noise from Sunday night’s Skookum festival in Stanley Park.

I, too, heard the music in my home in Dundarave but never thought of calling to complain.

Was it loud? Yes. Was I annoyed? No.

I knew that Skookum was on in the park for the weekend, and just like when Harmony Arts concerts are on in the summer, which I also hear each and every night of the festival, I also knew that eventually it would finish as it did.

Having lived in and visited many major cities around the world where concerts are held regularly and where everyone embraces these concerts, I continue to be astonished at the pettiness and somewhat selfish attitude some people show here and around Vancouver.

It is this attitude that gives Vancouver the name “no fun city.”

Lighten up, West Van residents, and embrace rather than complain about music festivals throughout our city and the occasional disruption to your evening.
