Dear Editor:
Re: Labour Pains Hit North Shore Employers, July 30 Sunday Focus.
Looks to me like we need to be more creative on living quarters and providing services near them. How about the old “rooming house” concept.
Why can’t the city work to provide rental units that are one room with a small bathroom, and a shared, communal kitchen and activity space (for reading, surfing the Internet etc.)?
There could be local food services within walking distance. The rent would be much less and may go a long way to attract a younger demographic. These have existed in the city before. Why can’t we have more of these? There could also be produce gardens available for use on the property.
Also, how come no one else has thought about opening a laundromat with a coffee bar? This type of service could also be made readily available for these rentals as well.
