Dear Editor:
Re: Public to Weigh in on B-Line Rollout, May 9 front-page story.
I am very supportive of public transportation and I use public transportation; the SeaBus, 210, 228 and 255. I also drive a car. My comment is directed at creating a dedicated bus lane. Seriously? Unless I misunderstood, and (plans to facilitate TransLink’s B-Line bus route may include) widening Marine Drive from four lanes to six lanes then that’s a great idea, expensive but great idea. If you are planning to reduce traffic to one lane, then you need to reconsider other options. And what are you proposing in West Vancouver? It’s one lane now and left turns and buses is a congested nightmare any time of day.
Any time I drive on Marine Drive and one lane of traffic is closed due to road work, traffic backs up for at least 10 minutes and sometimes 20 minutes.
So, to close an entire road lane to create a bus lane is simply ridiculous. You need a far bigger picture. Starting with widening Lions Gate Bridge; next, having dedicated pullouts for buses. Currently along Marine Drive most buses block one lane of traffic when loading and unloading. Banning all left turns, yes you can turn right and go around the block. Create a dedicated car lane to West Vancouver from Pemberton during rush hour.
Except for widening Lions Gate Bridge. A few simple non-expensive road works will improve traffic along Marine Drive.
