Dear Editor:

I reside on the property where the fatal shooting took place on Sept. 30. I have nothing but praise for the professionalism and compassion the RCMP displayed on-site and in followup to this tragic, horrific event that took place literally in my back and front yard. Kudos to all of them. Their presence was there all through the night and well in to the next morning, making me, and I imagine my neighbours, feel safe and secure.

Elsewhere in the [Oct. 7] newspaper was an article about some teens protesting in front of a government office, demanding “a better future.” Among the demands were to defund the police.

I hope if organizer Tavie Johnson and the other protesters ever have the misfortune to experience what I and my neighbours went through that night, that, for their sake, their demand to defund the police will not have been met.
