Dear Editor:
In response to William Caulfield’s letter – Changes to Residential Tenancy Will Mean Fewer Units, Higher Costs, Nov. 1 Mailbox, I wish to comment as follows:
How can he possibly know how landlords are going to react? He doesn’t and he can’t.
The rental market crisis is caused by one problem – and that issue is affordability. On any given day there are hundreds of ads for places to rent on the North Shore but hardly any are affordable.
The ripple effect is felt in all aspects of our daily lives. From traffic chaos on the bridges to employers not being able to find staff because no one can afford to live here.
For a very long time, the Tenancy Act has left many tenants at the mercy of unscrupulous landlords. Now finally changes are forthcoming to close these loopholes and this particular landlord is crying foul.
