Open letter to my North Shore neighbours:
I have lived in the Blueridge area for three years. I love the neighbourhood, and I walk a lot in the area, enjoying its beautiful gardens, well-kept homes and multiple trails.
One negative I have discovered is so much debris on the sidewalks and curbsides – plastic bags, bottles and caps, cigarette butts, etc. – all of which will be swept into the ocean during our heavy rains.
We all know how bad this is for the aquatic environment. Be aware that these “bits” do not decompose readily, if at all.
Our Earth is barely surviving and needs help.
If every resident picked up this random debris just in front of his or her residence, things would change for the positive.
Also, catch basins: please keep them clear in order to prevent flooding.
One baby step, but if all of us were to comply it would become one giant step.
Let’s keep our neighbourhoods clean and beautiful.
